Sony unveils PS3 v2.40 firmware video (part 1)

30 06 2008

Okay, so not long ago Sony informed us of their official confirmation regarding PS3 v2.40 firmware update. We also saw a video of v2.40 displayed on a debug PS3 unit in it’s development stage. But now - finally - we get an official video from Sony demonstrating v2.40 in it’s final development stages! Check it out below:

Eric Lempel, director of PlayStation Network Operations clearly demonstrates to us several of the upcoming features in v2.40. The main feature he shows is the long awaited in-game-XMB. Simply tap the PS button in game, and you’re redirected to the PS3’s home menu - the XMB. All the features on the PS3’s XMB are avaliable to you once you’ve pressed the PS button in game - nothing is restricted. You can access your photos, listen to music in game, message friends - everything as normal, but whilst playing a game!

Sony have also added a nifty little feature onto the XMB which allows you to search google directly from the PS3’s home menu. After you’ve submitted your search, the internet browser will pop up containing results which you’ve searched for.

This video is only part 1 of Eric’s v2.40 demo, click here to watch and read about part 2 of v2.40 detailing the PS3’s trophy system.

Thanks for submitting this video to us xxcooldudexx!
