So we’ve just been talking with a Sony Playstation rep regarding the upcoming Playstation E3 conference which is being held later on today.

According to the rep, Sony have some interesting things to unveil at the show. The first thing which caught our attention was 4 new PS3 exclusive games which are to be released later on in the year and early 2009. These 4 new games will be shown as well as the following games which have been officially confirmed by Sony:

Killzone 2 (PS3)
LittleBigPlanet (PS3)
MotorStorm Pacific Rift (PS3)
PixelJunk Eden (PS3)
Resistance 2 (PS3)
SIREN: Blood Curse Episode #1 (PSN)
SOCOM: Confrontation (PS3)
Buzz! Master Quiz
Buzz! Quiz TV

We’re guessing that one of the 4 games to be announced by Sony later on today will be God of War 3. For the others, we’re unsure.

The Sony rep said that Home has a few more features/additions and these will also be demonstrated. What these features are exactly, we don’t know.

A new Playstation controller is also supposed to be in the making. Apparently it has a much longer battery life (not that the current controllers don’t have a long battery life!), will be lighter than the current DualShock3, and of course will include rumble. A wireless headset is also said to be included in future PS3 packages and we’re told that we could be seeing a new PS3 bundle in time for Christmas. With Resistance 2 being released in November, there’s a very good chance that Resistance 2 could be part of the new PS3 bundle.

A new PS3 firmware is supposed to be demonstrated, displaying “In game mic chat”. A few more “surprises” will be detailed later today, we’re not told what, so we’ll just have to sit back and wait.

As this is not officially confirmed by Sony, we’re currently calling all this a rumour for now - we’ll see it all happen later on today.

NiTiZ over at N4G has a friend that works for Sony who apparently leaked him future PS3 update information. According to the worker at Sony, PS2 games are going to be coming to the PS3 PSN store later this year.

Apparently this information is going to be announced at E3 this year, so from now until then - we’re going to keep this as a rumour. Below is what the PSN PS2 page looks like, all very realistic looking, but this is something which easily would be created in Photoshop and again - we’re going to keep this topic settled as a rumour for now.

After all the hype regarding PS3 firmware 2.40 in game XMB, we finally get a clear view of how in game XMB works.

Here’s the video:

It looks pretty real to us, but we’re not going to say it’s 100% real. We aren’t given a clear demonstration of what the firmware 2.4 is capable of. We get to see the system accessing it’s XMB in game, which is good - but nothing much else. We’re not shown music playing in game, friend messaging in game etc… you get the point.

If you’re wondering why the PS3 in this video has a few extra icons on it’s XMB, it’s because the firmware is being processed on a debug PS3 unit.

When can we expect to be receiving firmware 2.40? Sony have been known in the past to release their firmware upgrades on a Tuesday - which is tomorrow - and I’m pretty much sure they’ll release it in time for MGS4. I expect you’ll be able to collect trophies in MGS4 which could possibly be a little secret Kojima Productions are hiding and waiting to surprise us with? Who knows!

The rumours surfing around the web that Blu-ray will be introduced to the Xbox 360 can now be put to rest.

Microsoft officially released a statement regarding the issue, here’s what they said:

As we have stated, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360. Games are what drive consumers to purchase game consoles, and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available.

So, for now, it appears that Xbox 360 will not be seeing Blu-ray, ever!

Rumors are something we know we shouldn’t believe in but we remain drawn to it otherwise. Maybe it’s because these gossips contain juicy information that we just can’t stop thinking about. An insider from Sony was able to divulge information that the company has plans of bringing out the 120-160 GB models of the PS3.

He added that these 120-160 GB models will be coming out with the same price as the 80GB model. The release of these models will have the new Dual Shock 3 controllers as well.

Even though Sony has released a “no comment” statement regarding the rumor spreading, the insider said that the company will phase out the 80 GB PS3 along with the Spider-Man 3 pack-in bundle.

Right now, everything is still up in the air. No official word has been released regarding the developments that were mentioned. We’ll keep you updated on the events to come.
