PS3 Breaks 1 million mark in UK sales!

4 03 2008

PlayStation 3 has officially sold one million units at UK retail, hitting the milestone faster than PSOne or PS2.

Anbd now Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Ray Maguire is more confident than ever that the console can step up its game further in the next-gen race this year.

“Achieving one million PS3 sales faster than both PSOne and PlayStation 2 is even more gratifying considering PS3 is a premium product introduced at a premium price,” he told MCV.

Call of Duty 4 Glitches: Backlot, Bloc & Crossfire!

2 03 2008

Hey guys so I thought it would be fun to video some of the glitches I knew on Call of Duty 4 and upload them to youtube. :)

Each of the following glitches have been done in old school mode. Don’t play old school mode like me? Well they’re pretty fun to mess around with in private matches with friends.

Backlot glitches:

Crossfire glitches:

Bloc glitches:

Remember: Old school mode must be enabled for these glitches to work. Non-old school mode doesn’t let you jump as high as you can in old school mode so you won’t be able to pull of the glitches without old school mode enabled.

Enjoy!

GTA IV gameplay can last up to 100 hours to complete!

1 03 2008

After spending so much time trying to find those horseshoes and the mythical Bigfoot, we’ve always expected Grand Theft Auto IV (Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360) to offer hours of quality gaming time. Fortunately, it seems Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games won’t be letting us down - GTA4 is said to take around 100 hours to complete.

“If you’re not in a rush and you answer the phone when it rings it’ll take about 100 hours to complete,” said Rockstar’s spokesperson. Protagonist Niko Bellic’s cellphone will be a major source of sidequests, so we can imagine it being a very handy tool that saves us from searching every nook and cranny to find something to do.

It’s interesting to note that the hours you’ll be spending in Grand Theft Auto IV will actually be heavier on main missions than side missions. “It’s harder to distinguish between main and side missions - there are loads of both,” Rockstar’s rep added.

Previous Grand Theft Auto titles were fairly easy to finish when you do story-related errands alone. While non-linear, it was possible to pick which missions count and end up beating the game in a shorter time. Here’s to hoping GTA4 will have more main content, which already seems to be the case.

PS3 Home to come out soon?

18 02 2008

We’ve heard about Warhawk’s integration into PlayStation Home, and we’re incredibly happy about the news. But there’s a rumor that may make us even more giddy about Home. According to this juicy, supposedly insider, tidbit, we’re going to get PlayStation Home “VERY VERY VERY soon”.

According to a PlayStation forum member, he managed to get in touch with an insider, who “shared” his/her knowledge about the development of PS3 games, and the things that a game needs for it to get included in the PlayStation Home network. Check out this excerpt, and read it carefully:

A game must be able to integrate into Home, a game must support “Accomplishments”. Right there, two important things, the PS3 system for achievements is called “Accomplishments”, and Home is coming out VERY VERY VERY Soon.

So a PS3 game should support Accomplishments - which sounds awfully like Xbox 360’s Achievements system - before it can be integrated into Home. It’s pretty much plausible, and the idea of being able to share and brag about your hard earned Accomplishments fits Home’s atmosphere.

Do take the above statement, which is filed under rumors for now, with a grain of salt. We sure do hope that Home is indeed coming soon, however. VERY VERY VERY soon.

Resistance 2: Fall 2008?

8 02 2008

We waited a long time for the sequel to Resistance, the sci-fi shooter on the PlayStation 3. According to a preview from 1Up, it looks like the game isn’t in any danger of being delayed so we won’t have to wait any longer than we have to.

According to the preview, Resistance 2’s single-player maps and the co-op campaign are already running thanks to a new initiative from the developers:

Unbelievable as it may seem, Insomniac claims that more or less all of the single-player maps are finished and running in a rough state. This is largely due to a new initiative from the developer that has them focusing on building the gameplay first and then adding art assets and balance tweaks later. Large portions of the co-op campaign are also confirmed to be running, so that fall 2008 release date is looking pretty much like a certainty now.

This is certainly welcome news since Resistance 2 is a pretty ambitious project. In the initial announcement of its release, Resistance 2 has been revealed to have 8-man co-op and supports up to a whopping 60 players in multiplayer mode.

Even if the game isn’t delayed, we still have to wait though. For what? A precise date of release of course. Check back for updates!

PlayStation 3: Game disc EBOOT.BIN decrypted!

6 02 2008

As some recent events indicate, the community is beginning to make headway in cracking open Sony’s PlayStation 3 console. The PS3News site’s dev has announced that they have successfully decrypted ELF file from a PS3 game disc. Quoting CJPC’s post regarding the details:

This removes BOTH the disc layer of encryption on the EBOOT.BIN, as well as the file layer of encryption.

Aside from the announcement, the dev team also states that they’ve successfully downgraded a PS3 without using a previous flash dump backup. That’s all the information we’ve picked up so far regarding this ongoing project. Drop by again in case we receive word of any related updates.

Overflow.tiff crashes PS3! PS3 Hacks soon?

4 02 2008

Recently Team ICE discovered that they could crash a Sony PlayStation 3 using a well-crafted .TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) file loaded in the Sony PS3’s XMB. And the team has released that same .TIFF to the public yesterday, targeted at Sony next-generation consoles running on firmware version 2.10, regardless if it’s PAL or NTSC native.

Similar to past revelations, this .TIFF exploit does cause an overflow, only this one wrought havoc on the Sony PlayStation 3’s heap data area. Some have also noted that the file released contains the words “Tavis Ormandy” in hex code - a misspelling of Travis Ormandy, a member of Google’s Security Team, we speculate - which somehow links this to the .TIFF jailbreaking of the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, though coincidental.

Team ICE calls it a heap overflow and will permit other aspirant hackers on injecting simple code if they know the backend number and what calls to make. However, they didn’t attempt to test the full potential of the .TIFF exploit because they lack the resources to do so.

But the team made it clear that PlayStation ISOs cannot be played with this exploit - at least not yet. They say that hackers might need Sony’s PlayStation 3 Software Development Kit (SDK) to expand upon this latest exploit and see how far they can push with homebrew development.

PS3 with 120 - 160GB HDD & Dualshock3 to be released this year?

29 01 2008

Rumors are something we know we shouldn’t believe in but we remain drawn to it otherwise. Maybe it’s because these gossips contain juicy information that we just can’t stop thinking about. An insider from Sony was able to divulge information that the company has plans of bringing out the 120-160 GB models of the PS3.

He added that these 120-160 GB models will be coming out with the same price as the 80GB model. The release of these models will have the new Dual Shock 3 controllers as well.

Even though Sony has released a “no comment” statement regarding the rumor spreading, the insider said that the company will phase out the 80 GB PS3 along with the Spider-Man 3 pack-in bundle.

Right now, everything is still up in the air. No official word has been released regarding the developments that were mentioned. We’ll keep you updated on the events to come.
